Willow was a fantasy movie that paired up director Ron Howard and producer George Lucas for a sword and sorcery tale starring Val Kilmer.
We had a couple of lawn chairs in front of a Standard Drug store in a bad part of Richmond, VA. That was our home for three or four days, as we waited out for tickets for a scalper.
Time passed slow, and as we got crazy from the heat, we would take turns walking around the neighborhood.
On one hungry journey, I passed by a KFC and was overcome by the aroma. I ordered one bucket of extra crispy fried chicken, a large thing of mashed potatoes, and a bunch of biscuits.
In one weak moment, I’d come to the end of my two year stint as a vegetarian. Sorry, Morrissey.
Oh yeah, and on the way back to our ticket camp, I passed a second run movie house that was playing movies for 99 cents. For the rest of the ticket wait, we both went to Willow about five times each.
But not for the movie. I don’t think I ever watched five minutes of it, because it looked awful. We went for the 126 minute nap in air-conditioning. It was a great deal.
Willow is available on Amazon in Blu-Ray and DVD.
